Texas And Their Antique License Plates

The pre-state Texas era was 1907 to around mid 1917. At that time, vehicles were registered not by the state, but by individual county. Now by 1917 there were over 200 counties so guess what? There were more than likely 200 plus license plates with a #1 on them.

What were the early Texas plates made of? Usually anything they could get their hands on. The early Texas plates were homemade from materials such as leather and old tin cans and sometimes even wood!
